Trip to Segovia Feb 2009

I am just back from a trip to Segovia. Segovia is one hour from Madrid by bus and is worth a visit. There are many options to reach Segovia, but as the cheapest option is the bus, we decided to take it. Forgot to mention, I was accompanied by Daniela and I am sure she got bored. She loves to travel, but in the company of a tattler like me, I am not really sure if she found it interesting.

Well, I had almost everything planned before we started and we took the bus from Principe Pio at 9 AM in the morning. Daring the morning chill, we made it to the bus stand. A ticket to Segovia costs E 6.64 one way. We bought tickets and at 10 AM, we were in Segovia.

We walked to the Roman Aqueduct and enquired at the tourism office located there. Very helpful officers guided us on the route to take . After watching the Roman aqueduct and taking a few pictures and videos ( I am a typical tourist), we left for the Cathedral. The Cathedral is just a 10 min walk from the Aqueduct. We proceeded further and reached the Alcazar.

The Alcazar was the theme model for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, I mean the castle in the movie. Tickets to enter cost 4 E and students get a Euro off. Another 2 E for a climb of the St John’s staircase. This is round 170 steps and once you are on top, you get a good view of Segovia.

We bought tickets and went around the Alcazar. The Alcazar, I feel is Segovia’s best monument.

We came back to the Plaza Mayor and snacked. We then went to the Cathedral to take a closer look. It costs 3 E to enter the Cathedral. The Cathedral is beautiful and worth the money, though no photography permitted.

Well, thats mostly it. We took the bus at 2 30 PM and was in Madrid by 3 30.

Short, but a good start to my adventures in Spain.
