Obtaining a work permit / residence VISA to Spain - Step 1 ( Applying for Police Verification Certificate)
I have just completed my first step in obtaining a work VISA to Spain. I am not sure if I will finally get the VISA or not. But, I would like to outline the processes involved so that it can help someone else who is doing this.
Step 1 is to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate from the Regional Passport Office. I just applied for that today. For me, it involved going to the Passport Office 5 times. Since I live very close to the office, it didn’t really matter. You should first collect Form 2 from the Passport office by paying Rs 5 or you can download that here
Now make sure that you fill all details clearly. The form is pretty easy to fill and there will be no confusion.
You will also have to fill a Personal Particulars Form. The form is available at the office or you can download that here
Make sure that you fill your address and details for all places you have stayed in the past 1 year. Use different PP forms for that. You will also have to provide references of people who stay around for clarification when the policeman comes to visit.
In case you are residing at a place that is not your permanent address, you will have to provide residence proof. I provided my landline number and rental agreement( this is in my fathers name). I also attached a copy of my PAN card for proof that I am a tax payee. You also have to carry your Passport in original and also a copy. They will keep the Passport.
The cost of applying - Rs 300 ( Can be paid in CASH or DD)
Things to carry to the Passport Office - Scissors, Glue Stick, Pen, Stapler, Empty Sheets of Paper (In case you have to write a letter), Min of 3 Passport Size Photographs.
Document Checklist -
Form 2, Passport, Copy of the Passport, Residence Proof, Personal Particulars Form, PAN Card
You can also visit the Govt of India Website
So thats about it. I am now waiting for the Policeman to come for verification.
The whole procedure is going to take 20 days. I will them have to go again on rounds of the Passport Office to get the Certificate. I will have to courier the same to The Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. I will write about that when it happens.
